Using a blog is a very useful tool in an educational setting. In my classroom, I would use a blog as a calendar available to all the parents, students, and even the school's administration. Posting events for the week or for the month will keep parents informed of all the classroom activity. Another advantage of posting classroom activities and events is for students who may be out sick or who may miss school for some reason. They could easily see homework assignments they were missing and reading to make up work more independent.
This could also be used as just information. If a parent is curious about upcoming events, they can inquire at their own leisure.
I could also use a blog to accommodate my students' needs too. I could post daily homework assignments and upcoming tests. While it would still be beneficial for the students to keep track of homework in a calendar of their own, they could check my blog for that night's homework assignment if they forgot their planner or forgot to write the assignment down.
